Hey guys! So I decided that instead of the invasive and tedious mass email-updates I would simply start a blog of my time working in Windsor - that way anyone interested in what I am doing (the underlying assumption being of course that someone is interested...) can check up on me on their own time.
I'll try and post every few days. As my family can tell you the last time I spent any considerable time away my calls home were few and far between. When I did call it was usually because my financial situation had taken a decided turn for the worse. This time I should, theoretically, be financially independent...I can't decide if this is a good thing or not. Well it's good for my father, at any rate. So the blog is my latest attempt to improve my notorious lack of communicative consistency.
So I leave tuesday morning at 8 am. Don't all rush to the airport to say goodbye. Funny thing: when I left for Japan at 16 my family fussed and fumed over me for two days before my departure. This time mom and dad are attempting to each make a case as to why he or she will be more inconvenienced by driving me to the airport...I guess these things happen with age. Kind of like financial independence.
The first things to do will be to meet with my supervisor wednesday morning and then try and secure a place to live. Currently I'm working on a lead that would see me share a house with a few grad students and a Turkish math professor. Too bad he's not from Kazakhstan.
Oh and apparently there's a giant casino across the street from my hotel the first night. I guess losing my rent money at the craps table would not be so slick hey?
Although I guess it could make a good blog entry.
